Let The Golden Rule Rule You
So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. Matthew 7:12 (New International Version, NIV)
“Let the golden rule rule you. “ Dr. Jim Reish
Do things to pour into people and not drain them. Seek to make a deposit in people’s lives. Look for ways to give to others, rather than seeing what you can get from them. People may not remember what you say to them, but they will remember how you treated them and what you did for them. Actions leave a mental picture in people’s minds. After all, people think in pictures. We speak with words and recall primarily in pictures. What they remember of you will be based on how you made them feel.
Do you just tell people you love them, or do you also show them? Words are important in making people feel loved. But, our actions can do much towards demonstrating that love. It paints a mental image of your love when you do kind things and help them.
The more important you can make someone feel, the more you can impact them. We all have value and we should show people how valuable they are. Yes, it is nice to hear kind and positive words, but actions last so much longer. When we show someone how much we esteem them and how much we care, that will last for years in their memories.
It has been said that talk is cheap. I wouldn’t actually agree with that totally because words are containers and they are quite powerful. But, actions can often go beyond our words to leave a lasting impression with someone regarding how we feel about them. And the actions don’t have to be big- just something small to show appreciation, love, and affection. The Golden Rule tells us to do unto others as we would have them do unto us. So, go out there and start doing!
