Quietness
This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: “Only in returning to me and resting in me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength. Isaiah 30:15 (New Living Translation, NLT)
There is a lot of noise in the world. The enemy is doing everything he can to keep us from enjoying quietness. Why is quietness so valuable? Why does he want to steal it? In quietness is where we hear from God. The enemy definitely does not want us to hear from our Father.
Each day we should try to spend some time in quietness, or what some might call quiet meditation or contemplation. As we quiet ourselves and rest in the Lord, we can hear His voice and gain His instruction, wisdom, and receive His love. In quietness, we can meet with God.
“Be still and know (recognize, understand) that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations! I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10 (Amplified Bible, AMP)
We recognize the voice of God in the quiet stillness. As we calm our souls and sit before the Lord, He can download His love, His plans, His desires in us. We can gain tremendous amounts of divine knowledge and understanding, not to mention peace, from spending time in blessed quietness.
Part of our daily personal time with the Lord should be quietness. We can begin with prayer, or worship or reading His Word, but we should include quiet time in the mix. If we do not sit still and tune our receivers to God’s frequency, we will miss what He is trying to tell us. God is speaking, but often we do not hear Him because we don’t quiet our hearts to listen.
We quiet our minds by casting our cares on the Lord. Then, we can relax in His presence and allow the Holy Spirit to speak to us. His voice will arise from deep within us and we will recognize it as the Lord. It may not be an audible voice, but one that comes up from your spirit and is spoken to your heart and mind. In quietness, we can hear, know, and relate to God on a higher level. So quiet yourself, listen for His voice, and you will grow and develop in your relationship with God.
