Thou Art Good

Thou art good, and doest good; teach me thy statutes. Psalm 119:68 (KJV)

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. I John 1:9 (KJV)

These two verses tell us that God is good, and God is just. I John 1:9 in the Amplified Bible Classic Edition (AMPC) says that “He is faithful and just (true to His own nature and promises).” And if we look at II Timothy, we also see He is faithful, no matter how we act.

If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself. II Timothy 2:13 (NKJV)

God is good even when man makes bad decisions. God made both the angels and mankind, knowing some would choose to rebel against Him. He knew they would choose their own course apart from Him. Since God knows all things and is only good, why did He make angels and man, knowing what they would do? One answer is that God is just.

Because God is just, no one can accuse God of being unfair, unjust, or bad. Because of His justice, man and angels will be judged based on their choices. They cannot accuse Him or not doing right. Because God is good, He gave us the choice of following Him or not. Because God is faithful, He provided a way for us to be reconciled back to Him.

Angels must live with their choice and once man dies, he or she must live with his/hers as well. God does not allow the choices of men or angels to change who He is. Nothing can keep Him from being God and doing what He planned all along. Our choices determine if we are included in His plans or not. Regardless of the actions of mankind or angels, God is God and will do right. He never changes. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Our good God has chosen man and angels to fulfill His plan. Now, we must choose to be a part of it by choosing to love, trust, and serve Him.

Good and upright is the Lord. Psalm 25:8 (KJV)
