Don't Blame God For Your Own Self-Destruction

Don't Blame God For Your Own Self-Destruction

But the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, Where are you? He said, I heard the sound of You [walking] in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself. And He said, Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat? And the man said, The woman whom You gave to be with me—she gave me [fruit] from the tree, and I ate. Genesis 3:9-12 (KJV)

After Adam and Eve sinned, God called to Adam, asking where he was. God knows all things, so He actually knew where Adam was. In the Hebrew, the phrase “Where art thou?” is more correctly translated “Why are you where you are?” God knew that Adam had fallen and He was calling Adam to accountability.

Adam told God that he feared when he heard God. Before Adam had disobeyed God, he was delighted to hear God. Now, instead of embracing God, he hid from God. Fear always draws us away from God. Faith is what gives us confidence to come close to Him.

Adam said he was afraid because he was naked. If you refer back to Genesis 3:7, it says that when they sinned, the eyes of Adam and Eve were opened and they knew they were naked. They fell from innocence and God-consciousness to being sin-conscious and knowing they were naked. They lost the God-glory that had clothed them, and they settled for earth-made clothes fabricated from fig leaves.

God asked them who had told them that they were naked. And He followed up with, “Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?” Again, Gd already knew the answer. He wanted Adam to come clean, confess, and take responsibility for his actions, but he did not. Instead Adam blamed God for giving him the woman who gave to him the fruit to eat. Rather than admit what he did, he blamed God and the woman for his own sin and failure.

Mankind still blames God. God often gets blamed for just about anything that goes wrong. The truth is that troubles are man’s fault and not God’s. Man had no problems until he disobeyed God. God is faultless; He cannot sin. But man in his arrogance and pride, does not like to admit his own sins, weaknesses, and shortcomings. He would rather make excuses. We must humble ourselves and admit our need for God. I wonder what would have happened if Adam had just taken responsibility for what he had done.

When things go wrong, don’t blame God. We must go to the root of the problem, which is man’s disobedience to God. Unsaved mankind now listens to the devil and not to God. We have the results of satan, sin, man’s disobedience, and the fall. When things go wrong, go back to the root of it all- man’s disobedience- and maybe your own disobedience. Owe up to the fact that God is never to blame, but He is the only One who can help you and fix your mistakes. Don’t blame God for your own self-destruction. Instead, confess it to God, and He will forgive you, make you right with Him, and work things out for you
