Holy Spirit Helps Us Pray

Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. Romans 8:26-28 (NKJV)

The Spirit referenced here is the Holy Spirit. He helps us in our weaknesses. One weakness is that we don’t always know what we should pray. This is because we don’t know everything like God does. The Holy Spirit makes intercession, praying on behalf of a person or situation, through us as we pray in tongues. In the natural, when we don’t know how to pray, Holy Spirit does. When we pray in the Spirit, we don’t know what we are praying, but we can be assured we are praying God’s perfect will over a matter.

Groanings which cannot be uttered- what does this mean? It means you can’t really put into words what you are saying, but you feel it deep within you. As you draw out those sounds from deep within, you pray those forth and it brings about God’s will in a situation. You’re praying God’s will and you aren’t messing it up by putting your own ideas and perceptions into it.

Our weaknesses can be an inability to get results on our own. When we partner with Holy Spirit in prayer by praying in tongues, the will of God will manifest, and God will work all things out for our good.

I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all; I Corinthians 14:18 (NKJV)
