Remember the Lord Your God
“Therefore you shall keep the commandments of the Lord your God, to walk in His ways and to fear Him. For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, that flow out of valleys and hills; a land of wheat and barley, of vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olive oil and honey; a land in which you will eat bread without scarcity, in which you will lack nothing; a land whose stones are iron and out of whose hills you can dig copper. When you have eaten and are full, then you shall bless the Lord your God for the good land which He has given you. “Beware that you do not forget the Lord your God by not keeping His commandments, His judgments, and His statutes which I command you today, lest—when you have eaten and are full, and have built beautiful houses and dwell in them; and when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and your gold are multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied; when your heart is lifted up, and you forget the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage; Deuteronomy 8:6-14 (NKJV)
This passage describes exactly where we are right now. We are about to enter a time in which our every need shall be met and our dreams will become reality. Peace and prosperity will abound, especially for God’s children.
As we enter this wonderful time where God’s Spirit is poured out on all flesh and His glory is everywhere, let’s remind ourselves not to take the Lord’s goodness for granted. When times are difficult, people will readily turn to the Lord for help. However, as circumstances improve and everything becomes roses and rainbows, it has been common for many of those same people to no longer seek God as they did during trying times.
We must be diligent not to allow the good things we receive from God to turn us away from Him. The Lord must always remain the center of our lives. If we begin to decline in reading our Bible, praying, and spending time with Him, we must immediately take steps to return to our first love. If we allow it to continue, we’ll begin sliding down a slippery slope into cold, empty religion instead of a healthy, living, vibrant relationship with Him. The fire will die, and our spiritual lives will turn into meaningless rituals.
Let’s make a quality decision right now that as we become prosperous and our needs and wants are abundantly met, we will daily give thanks and remember the Lord our God. He is the source of all good things and without Him we are nothing and have nothing.
“And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day. Deuteronomy 8:18 (NKJV)
