Hedges- We're Totally Surrounded
Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought? Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land. Job 1:9-10 (KJV)
Thou hast broken down all his hedges; thou hast brought his strong holds to ruin. Psalm 89:40 (KJV)
In Job 1, the word hedge means to shut in for the purpose of protection or restraint. It refers to a fence or a protective barrier that surrounds. In Psalm 89, it means to wall in or close up, also referring to protection.
We can expect God to hedge us in. We can ask Him for His hedge of protection to surround us and keep us safe from harm. I frequently pray a hedge of protection around myself and my loved ones. A hedge is just another way of describing an impenetrable wall built around us by our heavenly Father. The Bible says that God is our stronghold, meaning He is our safe place. He is our Protector.
I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Psalm 91:2 (KJV)
The Lord God is a Fortress and a safe harbor. He encloses us in His protective care. As we rest in Him, He shields us from all harm and keeps us secure. We need not fear anything. God has us covered- literally. This is especially true of the New Testament believer, because we are covered in the blood of Jesus. Nothing can get through the blood to harm us. It’s like being encased in bullet-proof material. And that doesn’t even take into account the authority we have over the enemy.
Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Luke 10:19 (KJV)
The protective hedge surrounding us and our authority over anyone or anything that comes against us gives us an unbeatable advantage over the enemy. There’s nothing to be afraid of because we are surrounded- by God.
