The Body and Blood of Jesus

The Body and Blood of Jesus

Let’s dig into the significance and meaning of the body and blood of Jesus Christ.

Body

Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:…  By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all….  But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;…. For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. Hebrews 10:5, 10, 12, 14 (KJV)

These verses speak of Christ’s body offered up as a sacrifice, the Lamb of God who redeemed us by His body on the cross. He took mankind’s place. God prepared Christ’s body as an offering to be offered up on the altar of the cross to sanctify us, setting us apart for God. He was one sacrifice for sin forever, and He sat down at Father God’s right hand, signifying that His work was finished. By this one offering Jesus perfected us. Perfected means reaching a desired goal, complete, mature. Our salvation is complete when we’re born-again. We’re a perfect babe in Christ that has to grow (I Peter 2:2). Because Jesus Christ offered Himself to God for us, now we can offer ourselves unto God (Romans 12:1).

Blood

Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. Acts 20:28 (KJV) emphasis mine

And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel. Hebrews 12:24 (KJV)

Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. Ephesians 5:1-2 (KJV)

In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness. Zechariah 13:1 (KJV)

Jesus purchased us with His own blood. He poured out His blood as an offering to God for us. He was the fountain that was opened up and blood poured out of His body to buy us back to deliver us from sin and satan, redeeming us from the curse of the law (Galatians 3:13-14).

Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him. John 6:53-56 (KJV)

Jesus poured His blood out for us as a drink offering to God. Those who partake of His blood and His flesh believe and receive what Jesus did for us. Continued belief in Him results in eternal life.

Body & Blood

Jesus’ body was the fulfillment of every Old Testament sacrifice. Jesus’ blood was the fulfillment of every Old Testament offering. As we walk in Christ, puting faith in Christ, His body and His blood, we can walk in all He died to give us: salvation, healing, protection, blessing, and fellowship with God. We can claim every promise of God and so much more.

As we feed on God’s Word, we feed on the bread of life (His body). As we enjoy our salvation, we drink of the blood of Christ. There is true provision in the Lamb of God. All we need is in Christ, so believe and receive all He has done for us.
