Less Really Is More

He must increase, but I must decrease. John 3:30 (KJV)

John the Baptist said this, proclaiming Jesus as the Messiah, Lord, and God. He was preparing the way of the Lord.

Just seven little words, but his statement carries such profound meaning. Less is more. Less of us to receive more of Jesus.

We can get in the way of what God wants. Our pride, selfishness, and self-will can be hindrances to the plan of God for our lives. When we are self-willed, we don’t do God’s will, but prefer to do our own will. The more we follow our own way, the less we go God’s way. However, the more we decrease in living for self, the more we can live for God. It’s the principle of sowing and reaping. The more we sow of our own will and give it to God, the more of God we receive.

The more we decrease, the more we can become like Christ. Thus, the less we are in the way, the more God can have His way. As we lose ourselves more and more, we find more and more of God. God doesn’t want you to stop being you, but He wants you to desire more of Him so He can mold you into the best you that you can become. And that best version of you looks like Jesus!

Less of me and more of Christ. That should be our desire. It is a great paradox- we must die to live. We must lose to gain. To decrease is to increase. The way up is down, humbling ourselves to be exalted by God.

As we lose ourselves, actually giving our own will over to God, we find the life of God. And when we give ourselves totally to Him, He can enlarge us. As we give it all away, we can be trusted with more- more of God, more of His anointing, more of His power, more influence…. Less really is more!
