Identity- Part 2: Identity is Known, Then Destiny is Shown

Identity- Part 2: Identity is Known, Then Destiny is Shown

When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.” Now Jesus himself was about thirty years old when he began his ministry. He was the son, so it was thought, of Joseph, the son of Heli, Luke 3:21-23 (New International Version, NIV)

We must know who are are first in order to fulfill our destiny. Jesus was praying. Prayer gets us in a position to receive from God and opens us to the Holy Spirit. Then we can hear God speak to us. Heaven gets involved and heaven’s atmosphere comes to earth. We must hear God because only He can reveal our true identity. Jesus was age 30 when this took place, which is significant because the priests begin their ministry at age 30.

Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,… Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside. He was teaching in their synagogues, and everyone praised him. He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written: “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” Luke 4:1, 14-19 (New International Version, NIV)

Jesus got alone with God, full of the Spirit and led by the Spirit. As we are full of the Spirit, we can be led by the Spirit, even in difficult situations. On the road to fulfill destiny, each step is a fulfillment of destiny, not just the destination. It is a process, so we must enjoy the journey because it all adds up to destiny.

Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit. As we are full of the Spirit, we are empowered by the Spirit. Jesus began to fulfill destiny, teaching them all. He went to His hometown and His true identity was announced. His identity told not just Who He was, but what God wanted Him to do. First God reveals who we are then what we are to do. We find both in the Scriptures, revealed by Holy Spirit. Jesus found who He was in the Scriptures and read it, declaring His destiny. He found what God wanted Him to do and He did it. We are to do the same. All we do is to be based on Scripture. Being full of and helped by the Spirit, He helps us become who He declares we are. He also helps us fulfill our destiny. God anoints us to be and do all He has for us. Identity is shown, then destiny is known.
