In The Anointed One and His Anointing

Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. I John 4:15 (KJV)

But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: I Corinthians 1:30 (KJV) emphasis mine

Christ in the Greek means anointed, referring to the Anointed One and His anointing. All we need is in Christ: the Anointed One and His anointing. Since we are in Christ and He is in us, it’s all in us.

In Christ refers to our position with Christ. Our position with Him gives us wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption. Let’s look at each of these in more detail.

Wisdom in the Greek is sophia. It means wisdom, skill, tact, expertise in an art. It portrays the idea of sound judgment and good sense. I define wisdom as the ability to make sound decisions based on God’s Word and how He wants us to live.

Righteousness is dikaiosune in Greek, which means being right with God or put in right standing with God. Christ has made us right with God.

Sanctification in Greek is the word hagiasmos. It speaks of separation or being separate, set apart for God’s use, made holy by God and for God. We are set apart for God.

Redemption in the Greek is apolutrosis, which literally means a releasing and refers to the payment of a ransom. We’ve been redeemed, or freed, from sin. Jesus redeemed us. He purchased us, paid for us, and bought us back from sin by His own body and blood. He delivered us from satan’s dominion of darkness and translated us into Jesus’ kingdom of light. We’ve been released from sin into reconciliation with God. We’ve been brought from death to life, from an old sin nature to a new nature.

These four things are part of our inheritance in Christ. In Christ, in the Anointed One and His anointing, we can walk in who He is and what He is made unto us. Out of the Anointed one and His anointing flow wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption for us. We are anointed by Christ, making us anointed ones.

Everything that is in Christ and His anointing is in us. Let’s learn to live by the anointing. We can tap into the wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption of Christ that is deposited in us. The more we do this, the more we reflect Christ in our character and lifestyle. And this glorifies God. Thus, the Anointed One gives us His anointing, and as we draw on it, we glorify Him, pouring that anointing back on Him in worship.
