Song of Love

Song of Solomon is also called Song of Songs, which means the greatest song. It is the greatest wedding song; the greatest love song. Originally written by Solomon for his bride, we can now see the man as Christ and the bride as the church. Jesus sings His love song over His church, and we sing our song of love to Him. Let’s examine a few of the verses in this very personal and intimate book.

Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth: for thy love is better than wine. Song of Solomon 1:2 (KJV)

As we worship the Lord, we come face-to-face with Him, where love is shared. Jesus’ love is more intoxicating than wine. His love is the real thing and anything else is a cheap imitation. Onyl true love between Jesus and His people is truly satisfying.

A bundle of myrrh is my well-beloved unto me; he shall lie all night betwixt my breasts. Song of Solomon 1:13 (KJV)

This paints such an intimate picture. We are to keep Jesus close to us, close to our heart. We are to think of Jesus wherever we are. This brings peace and refreshing to us.

Behold, thou art fair, my beloved, yea, pleasant: also our bed is green. Song of Solomon 1:16 (KJV)

The bed speaks of intimacy. We are to share our love with Jesus and be closer to Him than anyone else.. To put anyone before Him is unfaithfulness. No other love can take the place of Jesus.

As the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste. Song of Solomon 2:3 (KJV)

As we sit in God’s presence, we enjoy sweet fellowship as we feed on God’s Word. This helps us to know God more intimately as we spend time together sharing love.

The voice of my beloved! behold, he cometh leaping upon the mountains, skipping upon the hills. Song of Solomon 2:8 (KJV)

As we get closer and closer to Jesus, we begin to recognize and know His voice. We eagerly await Him for more up-close fellowship.

My beloved is mine, and I am his: he feedeth among the lilies. Song of Solomon 2:16 (KJV)

We belong to Christ and He is ours. There is to be no room for any other in this marriage of love with Jesus. It has been said that feedeth among the lilies is an intimate reference to do with lovemaking. Jesus knows us intimately- more than anyone else.

His mouth is most sweet: yea, he is altogether lovely. This is my beloved, and this is my friend, O daughters of Jerusalem. Song of Solomon 5:16 (KJV)

As we spend time with Jesus, we find that He is altogether lovely. His Word is sweet. As we see and experience the Lord, He is lovely, beautiful and wonderful. We experience the beauty of friendship and close fellowship with the Lord.

I am my beloved's, and his desire is toward me. Song of Solomon 7:10 (KJV)

As we worship and love Jesus, He reveals that He desires us. His intent is for us. We love Jesus, but He loves us much more. This establishes in us true love and devotion for Jesus. It is an ever-increasing intimacy with Him. The more we are with Him, the more we desire to be with Him. The more Jesus reveals Himself and His heart to us, manifesting His love towards us, the more we love Him and desire to know Him more. Our hearts beat as one as we sing our love songs to one another.
