Undying Love
Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13 (KJV)
This tells us that there are degrees to our love. This tells us that the greatest degree of love is to die for another person. We can love until our love reaches its greatest potential, operating in our greatest love. This greatest love level is agape: God’s love. His love is unconditional and self-sacrificing. Jesus laid down His life, he gave it up, for us. This is the greatest love; undying love, that Jesus loved us enough to give up His life for us. He literally loved us to death.
Death cannot kill love. Jesus is love, according to the Apostle John. Love laid down His life so that we might experience His love, that we might receive Love Himself. He laid down His life as a sacrificial Lamb on the altar of the cross. He loved us so much that He preferred to die to save us than live without us.
How much does Jesus love us? He loves us more than Himself, than His very life. Love died so we might have life. Even death could not kill His love for us because it is undying love.
Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. I John 3:16 (KJV)
Hereby we perceive the love of God means that we see, know, and comprehend the agape love of God: self-sacrificing love. It is a love that loves to the death. Jesus is the source of life. Life died to give us love and life. Because He laid down His life for us, we are expected to love in the same way. Jesus told us the greatest love is the love that considers other people as more important than one’s own life.
We love him, because he first loved us. I John 4:19 (KJV)
Jesus loved us by laying His life down for us. He put us before Himself. Jesus first loved us and showed us His love by shedding His blood and dying on the cross. That is how He released His love to all mankind. Jesus loves us with an undying love. He was separated from the Father through His act of sacrificial, undying love so that nothing could separate us from the love of God. As Jesus died for us, let’s live for Him. Let’s be willing to sacrifice everything for Him and for the people He loves.
