The One Thing That Sends People to Hell
Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: Matthew 25:41 (KJV)
This tells us that hell was never made for man, but for the devil and his angels. Because satan rebelled against God he was cast out of the third heaven (Isaiah 14:12-20). A third of the angels chose to follow satan in his rebellion, and they will be with the devil in hell for eternity.
Sadly, when people choose to follow the devil and his angels instead of following God, they choose hell as their eternal destination. There are only two options and when people choose not to follow God, they are automatically choosing to follow the devil. And the devil will lead them right to hell.
He made Him who knew no sin to be sin in our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. II Corinthians 5:21 (New American Standard Bible, NASB)
Sin is not what sends people to hell because Jesus already went to hell and paid the penalty for our sins. Jesus became sin, separated from God. He died and went to hell in our place. People go to hell for not accepting Jesus’ payment for their sins. When we refuse to receive Jesus and all He did for us, we must pay for our sins ourselves. And according to Romans 6:23 the payment that sin demands is death. Refusing to accept Jesus causes us to be forever separated from God in hell, and eventually in the lake of fire, because hell will eventually be cast into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:14).
That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10:9-13 (NKJV)
We simply call on Jesus in order to receive Him and be saved. If you’ve never received Jesus as your savior, you can do it right now. This passage from Romans tells us how to do it. Call out to Jesus. Believe He died and rose again. Say it out loud with your mouth that you receive Him as Savior and Lord. Just commit to following Him and He’ll lead you all the way to heaven, causing you to escape the eternal torture and torment of hell.
People go to hell by their own choice, not God’s choice. It is not God’s will that anyone should perish and go to hell (I Timothy 2:4), but that all would come to a saving knowledge of His Son. Cry out to Jesus with a sincere heart, receive what He did for you, and you’ll be heaven bound.
