And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. Genesis 1:3 (KJV)

God, who is light, spoke forth light. God is light and lives in light. He speaks light, or speaks Himself, into a situation and creates light and order out of chaos. God gives meaning to it all. In God’s light, we see light- we see God Himself who is light. In the midst of darkness, look for God; He will be a light to us. His light overcomes the darkness. The Light of Life lights and brings life to us. God sends out His Word and truth, exposing the lies and revealing the truth- the truth that sets us free.

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. I John 1:7 (KJV)

God’s Law, His Word, is light. As we abide in the light, we can see more clearly. As we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with Him. That fellowship is based on the light that we now walk in. More light means more fellowship- with God and with other believers.

In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:4-5 (New International Version, NIV)

Jesus is the Light of Life. When we come to Him, He expels the darkness and gives His light to us, removing spiritual death from us and giving us new life- the God life. We come alive to God and we come alive in God. This is where we live life with God, the zoe (Greek) God kind of life. That is the kind of life God is and the kind of life He dwells in. He gives us life and life more abundantly. The more light we have, the more life we access. He is the Light of Life that lights and gives life to man.

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12 (KJV)

God is light. God’s Word is light. As we fill up on the Word, we fill up on God and on light, so there’s no room for darkness. As a result, we cannot be overcome. As we walk with God in obedience, love, and fellowship, He lifts up the light of His face upon us and others will see Jesus in us and on us.

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Matthew 5:14 (KJV)

We are to take the light of the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ to others so they can see the Light, know the Light, and be light to others. They will be able to walk in the Light and fellowship with the Light. this is how we drive darkness out of the world. We are to take the Light of life to the world and be the light of the world so our world is filled with God, who is Light.
