Reflecting On Blessing

Today, I want to share a number of Scripture verses that refer to blessings and being blessed. As children of God, we are free from the curse and we now live in the blessings of God. The Lord blesses us, and we are also called to bless the Lord. Bless means to speak well of, and since words are carriers of power, speaking well over someone or something releases life to them and promotes their success and victory.

We can claim these verses for ourselves. Below are some verses to meditate about blessing. I recommend taking time to read the verses before them and after them so you can understand the context of the situation about which the verse was written. These are all given in the King James Version, but you can get even more meaning from them if you look them up in a variety of translations and versions.

And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. Genesis 1:28 (KJV)

And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: Genesis 12:2 (KJV)

That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; Genesis 22:17 (KJV)

The Lord bless thee, and keep thee: The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace. Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)

Behold, I have received commandment to bless: and he hath blessed; and I cannot reverse it. Numbers 23:20 (KJV)

We see that whomever God blesses, no one can curse. One of the most extensive passages about blessing can be found in Deuteronomy 28.

And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God. Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field. Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep. Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store. Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out. The Lord shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways. The Lord shall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses, and in all that thou settest thine hand unto; and he shall bless thee in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. The Lord shall establish thee an holy people unto himself, as he hath sworn unto thee, if thou shalt keep the commandments of the Lord thy God, and walk in his ways. And all people of the earth shall see that thou art called by the name of the Lord; and they shall be afraid of thee. And the Lord shall make thee plenteous in goods, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers to give thee. The Lord shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow. And the Lord shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the Lord thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them: Deuteronomy 28:2-13 (KJV)

I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. Psalm 34:1 (KJV)

O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him. Psalm 34:8 (KJV)

Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Psalm 103:1 (KJV)

But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; Matthew 5:44 (KJV)

And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them. And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven. And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy: And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen. Luke 24:50-53 (KJV)

Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not. Romans 12:14 (KJV)

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: Ephesians 1:3 (KJV)

I highly encourage you to take the time to read these verses, meditate on them, and claim the blessings of God as your own. This is not a complete list as the concept of blessing is woven throughout the entirety of the Word. See how many more verses you can find on your own. A good concordance, such as Strong’s, and some time is all you need. Be blessed!
