The Thrill of the Hunt

The Thrill of the Hunt

But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. I Corinthians 2:9-10 (KJV)

Many of us love to quote verse 9 as an encouragement about hidden surprises that God has for us. And it is fine to do that. However, we tend to overlook verse 10, which tells us that those hidden surprises are revealed to us through the Holy Spirit. We don’t have to be in the dark about the good things God has for us.

Many a well-meaning Christian has used verse 9 to tell people, “Well, you never know what God’s going to do. It’s just too high and deep and magnificent for us to understand.” They try to tell us that we cannot expect to know the heart and mind of God. But that is either their lack of Word knowledge speaking or they are just using it as an excuse not to seek out the things of God.

God’s plan is for us to discover His secrets. He hides them so the world cannot understand them, but it is His pleasure for His children to uncover them. He has given us the Holy Spirit so we may understand His will and His ways. We do not have to be ignorant of the mysteries of God. As a matter of fact, it is His plan that we experience the adventure of seeking them out and finding them.

It’s like a treasure hunt. The Word is the treasure map and the Holy Spirit is our Guide. And what an adventure it is as we travel through Scripture, digging up gems of truth and nuggets of wisdom along the way. And the longer we travel, the deeper we go. And we uncover more and more of who God is and what He has prepared and planned for us.

The revealed mysteries of God are amazing. His plans for us are marvelous. Yes, His thoughts are higher than our thoughts and His ways are higher than our ways, but it is His desire that we strive to come higher, to be more like Him every day. He has given us His Spirit to help us do just that.

So, pull out your treasure map and get ready to become wealthy with the special things the Lord has reserved just for you!
