We Just Need Jesus

And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word…. But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her. Luke 10:39, 42 (KJV)

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6 (KJV)

We chase after many things. we run hard after stuff that won’t last; things that don’t satisfy. We work hard to obtain things, and when we get them, find they aren’t what we need. In Ecclesiastes, King Solomon called this chasing after the wind. He said it was vanity, or worthless and useless. In other words, it is a waste of time and energy.

The Bible talks about just one thing being needful. Only one thing is truly worth pursuing, and that one thing is Jesus.

We just need Jesus; to know Him and love Him. We must desire Him above all things, longing for Him, and thirsting and hungering for His presence. We are to pursue Him and seek to be with Him. With Jesus we’ll find there is love, joy, peace, happiness, fulfillment, fun, excitement, and adventure. We need Jesus more than the very air we breathe or more than the beating of our own hearts. Nothing is as essential to our existence as Jesus- not even the water we drink or the food we eat. We need Jesus more than anyone or anything.

The ultimate satisfaction and fulfillment for every person is to know Jesus intimately, to hear His words, and be in His presence. When we find Jesus, we find all we need. He is our source and supply. When we find Jesus, we want more of Him, and yet He satisfies. As we seek Jesus, we find Him more and more. As we do, we understand that life begins and ends with Him. He really is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Jesus is God, Savior, Lord, Friend, and so much more. When we have Jesus, we have it all… and that’s not chasing after the wind.
