God Is
And God said unto Moses, I Am That I Am: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I Am hath sent me unto you. Exodus 3:14 (KJV)

God used His name to refer to Himself. I AM literally means He who is. God is who He is and who He says He is. I AM in Hebrew is Yahweh, also translated as Jehovah, which means to be, to exist, to breathe. It refers to the God who self-exists, the eternal ever-loving One, the eternal Being, the One that in Himself possesses life, the permanently existing God.
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. John 4:24 (KJV)
This tells us that God is a Spirit. God, or Theos in the Greek, refers to supreme divinity. In the Old Testament, the title God usually comes from Elohim and Jehovah, with the latter referring to His attribute of being eternal, self-sustaining, and self-existent. Theos points to God having divine attributes. The word Spirit, when speaking of the Divine, speaks of God, Christ, Holy Spirit, the Holy Ghost, the Spirit of God. Spirit is the Greek Word pneuma which means to breathe, or breath of life. Therefore, God is spirit, having life in Himself, for He is life; He is a spirit being. The names of God are descriptive titles, giving us His attributes, telling who God is.
God is. God has no beginning or ending. He doesn’t need a beginning to begin. Being self-existent, He just is and has always been. He is life, eternal, living and inhabiting eternity in and of Himself. He dwells in eternity and not time. Because He is self-existent, He needs nothing to exist but Himself. He is Who He is, or as He is titled, the I AM. He doesn’t require anyone or anything for Him to be God because he is Spirit and Life. God is God all by Himself.
It takes faith to believe that God is. We receive revelation of this by His Word. God’s written Word is the revelation of God from God for mankind. The more we know the Word, the more we know I AM.
