The Inheritance Is Already Ours
He chose the Promised Land as our inheritance, the proud possession of Jacob’s descendants, whom he loves. Psalm 47:4 (New Living Translation, NLT)
This is prophetic for us. God has chosen our inheritance in the New Testament through Christ. Those who are in Christ have an inheritance. The Book of Ephesians tells us that God has given us an inheritance. God has chosen our inheritance in Christ. As we choose Christ, our inheritance is revealed to us, and we’ll know and experience our inheritance now and for all eternity. Ephesians chapters 1 through 3 tell us what’s ours in Christ. Ephesians chapters 4 through 6 tells us how to possess what is ours in Christ.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, Ephesians 1:3-5 (KJV)
We’ve been blessed and chosen by God. We are children of God, thus we have an inheritance.
In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: Ephesians 1:11 (KJV)
We’ve already obtained an inheritance. This is prophetic- it has been done and now we walk it out.
Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints, Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all. Ephesians 1:15-23 (KJV) emphasis mine
As we pray, believe, and confess the works of Christ, Holy Spirit reveals all our inheritance to us- line upon line, Scripture upon Scripture, revelation upon revelation.
As we see who we are in Christ (Ephesians 1-3), we begin to possess all that is ours in Christ (Ephesians 4-6). We’ll begin to walk out and enjoy all the inheritance God chose for us. If we chose our own inheritance, we would know little, see little, ask little, and have little. However, God, Who is so much bigger than we can imagine or know, chose the inheritance that’s best for us. As we read and study the Word, pray, and seek God, letting God speak to us and show us all He is and all He has for us, we can receive more and more of what’s already ours.
The more we mature in Christ, the more God will release to us what has been chosen for us. He has chosen our inheritance, and as we choose God, we choose more and more of our inheritance from Him. The greatest inheritance, of course, is God Himself. God is our ultimate inheritance.
