Quit Trying to Figure It Out!
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV)
Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track. Proverbs 3:5-6 (The Message, MSG)
Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Proverbs 3:5-6 (New Living Translation, NLT)
Trust in the Lord completely, and do not rely on your own opinions. With all your heart rely on him to guide you, and he will lead you in every decision you make. Become intimate with him in whatever you do, and he will lead you wherever you go. Proverbs 3:5-6 (The Passion Translation, TPT)
Trust in and rely confidently on the Lord with all your heart and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know and acknowledge and recognize Him,
And He will make your paths straight and smooth [removing obstacles that block your way]. Proverbs 3:5-6 (Amplified Bible, AMP)
No matter how many ways we look at it or how many different versions and translations we use, this passage still tells us one important thing: TRUST GOD AND QUIT TRYING TO FIGURE THINGS OUT.
I am sure that each and every one of us is familiar with these verses. I am also sure that we get the idea that we are to just quit trying to do it all on our own, and simply trust God. But, why is that we still have the desire to meddle in in the situation rather than just allowing God to do His thing? We must quit going through the same cycles of giving God control and then taking it back again.
The word trust in Proverbs 3:5 is the Hebrew word batach, which means to go in haste for refuge. It could also be translated to be bold, confident, secure or sure. When we trust God, we run to Him as our refuge from any and every trouble and adversity. Being safe and secure in Him gives us boldness and confidence that everything will be okay.
As we choose in each moment to remain at peace and not try to figure out how God will come through for us, we remain in His refuge and our confidence is sure. We must keep our eyes on the Lord rather than the challenge we are facing, so we will not be tempted to fear. God really is bigger than any problem, so we just need to chill out and let Him handle it. He is a lot smarter than we are and He does not need our help in figuring out what to do. He isn’t sitting on the throne wringing His hands in anguish and worry over how to handle things. He has never failed yet, and He is not going to start now.
When we trust Him, He leads and guides us down the right path, and we emerge victorious.
