Developing Your Gifts

Developing Your Gifts

Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, Romans 12:6a (KJV)

Every single one of us has been given gifts and talents; abilities imparted to us by God. We are responsible to identify, develop and use those gifts for His glory and to further His kingdom. Here are some things to keep in mind as you go about developing your gifts.

  • Know your gifts and what you do well. Ask God to show you your areas of gifting.

  • Use the gift(s) God has given you over and over; this will help you develop your gift(s).

  • Don’t try to do everything. Focus on the gift(s) you know you have a talent for.

  • Do what you love to do. What you like is an indicator of what your gift is and it makes it easier to flow in it.

  • Be patient. Every gift takes time to develop. For example, if you believe you have a talent for painting, don’t expect to paint like Picasso or Renoir right off the bat.

  • Spend time on what you can do and don’t worry about things you cannot do. This will build confidence for you to try things out.

  • Use your gifts to bless others. That’s a real win-win.

  • Don’t fret when you mess up or make a mistake with your gift. We learn more from our mistakes than our achievements.

  • As you use your gift, know that God will increase your gift.

These are basic, common sense tips to help you as you grow and develop the talents God has blessed you with. If you stay consistent and remember these tips, you will see real increase in the abilities God has given you.
