Curing Insecurity

May Christ through your faith [actually] dwell (settle down, abide, make His permanent home) in your hearts! May you be rooted deep in love and founded securely on love, That you may have the power and be strong to apprehend and grasp with all the saints [God’s devoted people, the experience of that love] what is the breadth and length and height and depth [of it]; [That you may really come] to know [practically, through experience for yourselves] the love of Christ, which far surpasses mere knowledge [without experience]; that you may be filled [through all your being] unto all the fullness of God [may have the richest measure of the divine Presence, and become a body wholly filled and flooded with God Himself]! Ephesians 3:17-19 (Amplified Bible Classic Edition, AMPC)

According to these verses, Paul’s first desire was for people to be born again and for Christ to make His permanent home in their hearts. His second desire was that those who are born-again become rooted deep in the love of God. I believe that we will be ever-learning about the love of God throughout all eternity. God is infinite, having no beginning and no end. Therefore, His love is also infinite, since I John 4:8 says God is love. His love cannot be measured. We cannot put a number on how big His love is- how wide or long or high or deep it is. It should be our diligent pursuit to understand the love of God. The more we see the vastness of His love, the more rooted and grounded we will be in it, because we know it will never run out.

As we become more and more acquainted with the love of God, it will begin to consume us and fill us to overflowing, so that it spills out on others. Being filled with the love of God is to be filled with God Himself. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Love and He resides in us. As we draw closer to the Holy Ghost in fellowship, we become more and more grounded in love. As the Apostle Paul said, the love of God surpasses mere knowledge, so it does not come through head knowledge, but through knowing and experiencing the unending love of God in our own lives.

His love cannot be bought or sold. It cannot be earned. It can only be received. We can’t do anything to get Him to love us. He just loves us because it is Who He is. He will never stop loving us and He will never decrease His love for us. Really knowing and believing that is what it means to be rooted and founded on love. People who know that God loves them cannot be shaken. They are secure in Him. Like a giant oak tree, they are rooted in the love of God and they will not be moved.

Become more grounded and established in His love today by spending time with the Holy Spirit and by meditating on scriptures like John 3:16 that declare His love for you. Ask God to give you revelation of His love. It was Paul’s desire that God’s love become a reality in our lives, and I can guarantee that it is the Lord’s desire too. Knowing and believing that God really loves you and will never stop loving you is a key that unlocks all the good things God has for you. And it is a sure-fire remedy for insecurity.
