Small Changes Make A Big Difference
Are you stuck in a rut? Are you tired of spinning your wheels? Do you want to experience a different life than you have now? I have good news- you can! The key is to make small changes and stick with them.
I’ve heard it said that the life we have today is the result of the choices we made and the actions we took yesterday. That means that if we want to change our future, we must do something different TODAY. Even small changes make a big difference. And our daily routine plays a huge part in the kind of life we have.
You might wonder how making a small adjustment in your daily routine can change your life. Consider this: if you do something everyday for just 15 minutes, that will add up to over 91 hours a year, or nearly four days! If you are wasting 15 minutes a day on useless activity, you are literally throwing away almost four days of your life each year. On the flip side, if you invest 15 minutes a day in a worthwhile activity, you are investing nearly 4 days a year on that activity. So, do you still think that small adjustments don’t pay off in the long run?
For example, are you always complaining that you never seem to have enough time to keep your house clean? Wouldn’t it help to take just 15 minutes each day to straighten up, do a little dusting, put a few dishes in the dishwasher, fold some clothes, or even clean a toilet? I’m sure we can all spare 15 minutes- if we turn off our phones, laptops, tablets and televisions. I’m positive we can spare even more than 15 minutes a day if we were to really think about it.
What small change to your daily routine can you implement now? Can you change one thing in your morning routine? What possible change can you make to what you do when you come home from work? Maybe you could change something you do at bedtime. If you make one change and stick with it for 21-30 days, you’ve established it as a new habit. And think about this- if you change an entire hour of your day- that adds up to 365 hours, or over 15 days, in a year!
Wow, that’s 15 days that you could be reading, praying, exercising, planning and organizing, studying the Bible, confessing scripture, journaling, learning a new language or skill, etc. Over the course of 10 years, that’s 150 days. Over the course of 25 years, that is more than one year of wisely used time- just by doing something constructive with one hour of your day.
Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom. Psalm 90:12 (New Living Translation, NLT)
Start right now. Do it today. Don’t put it off. Make one small change in your daily routine immediately. Ask the Lord to show you one thing you can change. And once you have that new habit established, make another change… and another… and another. Before you know it, your life will be transformed- one minor adjustment at a time!
