You're A Winner
I really believe a major theme of 2020 is victory. Our victory is provided in the blood of Jesus.
But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us spreads and makes evident everywhere the sweet fragrance of the knowledge of Him. II Corinthians 2:14 (Amplified Bible, AMP) emphasis mine
Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors and gain an overwhelming victory through Him who loved us [so much that He died for us]. Romans 8:37 (Amplified Bible, AMP) emphasis mine
Triumph and victory are powerful words. They carry within them the concept of a hard fought battle, a tough fight that is overwhelmingly won. We have that exact kind of victory- except someone else did the fighting for us. Jesus already punched the devil’s lights out for us so we don’t have to fight him on our own. All we have to do is accept the fact that Jesus fought for us, and remind the devil at every turn that he is the loser and we are the winners (through Jesus).
Our minds have become so programmed by the lies the enemy has been subtly, or not so sublty, sending our way. We can overcome a tendency to think wrong thoughts by staying alert to thoughts and even emotions that carry any sense of loss or defeat. The Holy Spirit will help us if we ask Him to. We must toss out the “what-if” thoughts. They lead us down the wrong path in our minds. Thoughts like, “What if I lose everything?”, “What if I end up all alone?”, “What if I fail?” have no place in our thought life. As we rely on the Holy Spirit to point out bad thoughts as they come, we can reject them at the moment they arrive. And then we go on the offensive against the adversary.
When a thought of failure or doom tries to enter our minds, we call out the devil. We tell him we know what he’s up to, and that we aren’t falling for his tricks. Then, we give him a taste of his own medicine- except what we’ll tell him is not a lie. We tell him that his days are coming to a quick end. We remind him that he will soon be cast into the bottomless pit, and after dealing with that torture for a thousand years, he will be cast into the lake of fire for all eternity. We can laugh at him and his attempts to ovethrow God. The devil hates to be laughed at because he is a prideful being. Finally, we tell him to leave in Jesus’ name. Because Jesus defeated the devil, we need not fear him. When we know who we are in Christ, he fears us.
If we continue to keep a close monitor on our thoughts and consistently enforce our victory over the devil, we will soon find that we aren’t plagued with thoughts and feelings of defeat. We will walk victoriously in life. That’s what it means to be more than a conqueror. You never lose, because in Jesus, you’re a winner.
