What's Done Is Done
We’ve all made mistakes in life. While I believe we can learn from the things we do wrong, I strongly believe it is counter-productive to dwell on the past. We cannot undo what has happened, or as the saying goes, “What’s done is done.” And today, I am here to tell you that it is time to move on.
I am no different than anyone else. The enemy tempts me to look back and think about what might have been if I had done things differently. But, the minute I recognize it for the destructive thought it is, I quote Philippians 3:13-14. As a matter of fact, I have done it so often, all I have to say is five words: This one thing I do,” and I am already dismissing the wrong thought before the rest of the passage is said.
…This one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13-14 (KJV) emphasis mine.
It has been said that what we have today is the result of the words we have spoken and the choices we made yesterday. So, with that in mind, I refuse to waste time moaning and groaning over the past. Instead, I choose to speak words of faith so my tomorrows will be better than my yesterdays. That is what it means to press toward the mark- to aim for God’s best for the future.
Do you know it is even unhealthy to dwell too much on yesterday’s victories? Yes, we can use times of accomplishment or a situation in which God came through to testify of God’s goodness and to build our faith. However, if we think on it too much, we will miss out on the good things that are still to come. Living in the past, whether reliving good times or bad, is not beneficial to us. The past is the past- leave it there and move on.
God has so many amazing things He still plans to do for you. As a matter of fact, He says the latter part of your life is to be better than your beginning.
Though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end should greatly increase. Job 8:7 (KJV)
Don’t waste your time thinking about times that have already come and gone. What’s done is done. Live life today with a view to tomorrow.
