Think Like God
For, “Who can know the Lord’s thoughts? Who knows enough to teach him?” But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ. I Corinthians 2:16 (New Living Translation, NLT)
This verse says that we have the mind of Christ, but this is not automatic- it has to be developed. How do we do this?
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2 (NKJV)
The New Living Translation says it even better.
Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Romans 12:2 (New Living Translation, NLT)
This tells us that it is a process that changes how we think, thus changing how we act. The Bible tells us that God’s thoughts are higher than ours when we think like the world thinks. But when we think like God does by renewing our minds to God’s Word, we put on the mind of Christ. Therefore, our thoughts line up with the thoughts of God. His Word and His thoughts are one and the same. As we study, meditate and speak God’s Word, we have a spiritual mind, renewed to His Word and led by His Spirit. We actually trhink like God does!
The more we renew our minds to the Word, the more consistently we will think God’s thoughts. And His thoughts are pure, lovely, honest, just, praiseworthy, virtuous and pure (Philippians 4:8). So, we cast down wrong thoughts by speaking God’s Word and replacing wrong thoughts with scriptural thoughts.
In a nutshell, that’s how we develop the mind of Christ and think like God thinks!
