The Name of Jesus: Jesus is Lord
Today we conclude our mini-series on the name of Jesus with the topic: Jesus is Lord.
Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. I Corinthians 12:3 (KJV)
In our own human strength or understanding we cannot say Jesus is Lord. It is only by the Holy Ghost revealing it to us. Just as Peter got a revelation that Jesus was the Christ, the Messiah, the Son of the Living God, that is how we know that Jesus is Lord. The Holy Spirit reveals it and empowers us so we can confess it. That is how we got saved.
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:9-10 (KJV) emphasis mine
The way we got saved is the same way we are to live the Christian life. We believe and speak the Lordship of Christ when we believe and sepak God’s Word, because Jesua and the Word are one.
We see a heart- mouth connection. What we believe, we speak, and then we receive it. As we do this, it enforces and takes what has been ours all along. As we speak that Jesus is Lord over sickness, sickness must bow and healing will manifest.
As we speak the Word from I Peter 2:24 that we were healed, from Ephesians 1:3 that we are blessed, from II Peter 1:3 that all things are ours, it will become ours. On the cross, Jesus said, “It is finished.” In the Greek, that phrase actually means paid in full. So as we believe and speak the Word in the same way we believed and spoke to accept Jesus as Savior, we make Him Lord over our lives. We simply believe in our hearts and confess it with our mouths.
The word confess means to say the same thing. When we say what God says, we can have what He has said we can have- what Jesus already paid for. With our hearts we believe unto righteousness, or we are made right with God. As we confess the Word and believe it in our hearts, we get what rightfully belongs to us.
In Romans 10:10. noted above, the word saved is the Greek word soteria, which encompasses salvation safety, deliverance, healing, etc. It is a completed salvation. However, we must believe it and speak it in the name of Jesus to make it so (Psalm 107:2). It is like cashing a check. There’s money in the bank, but to get it we must cash the check. Jesus paid for all we need. As we believe and speak forth all He did at the cross, we make it so. Thus, we enforce that Jesus is Lord.
