Confidence
For the Lord shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken. Proverbs 3:26 (KJV)
The word confidence in this verse means trust, hope, firmness, or stoutness.
Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. Hebrews 10:35 (KJV)
Confidence in the Greek in this verse refers to free speaking or boldness.
Webster’s Dictionarytells us confidence is firm belief or trust, self-reliance, boldness, assurance.
Roget’s Thesaurus gives us the following synonyms for confidence: assured, bold, certain, impudent, sure, positive, undaunted.
Where does our confidence as believers come from? Proverbs 3:26 tells us it comes from the Lord. When God is on our side, He’s for us and with us, and we can rely on and be confident in Him. He’s the smartest and the strongest. He is perfect, all-powerful, all-knowing, all-wise, and ever-present. With Someone like that on our side, we know He will help us do whatever we need to do. And what we cannot do, we know that God can and will based on His Word.
In the New Testament Greek, confidence speaks of a foundation upon which we can stand. We can stand on God’s Word. It will support us and hold us up. It is the sure foundation that will not fail. Such confidence leads us to stand, endure, and undertake anything. When we’ve got God’s Word on a matter, we can be confident, assured, certain and positive that God will fulfill His promises.
We do not place our confidence in man or in our own abilities to solve our problems. Our confidence does not rest on our degrees, education, experiences, accomplishments, or the people we know. Man will fail, but God never will. The enemy may try to steal our confidence by bringing bad experiences like failed relationships, bad decisions, business failures, and so on. We must place our confidence in God and not allow the enemy to make us waiver in our trust in the Lord.
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Philippians 4:13 (KJV)
We must have an “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” attitude. Through Christ, the anointed One and His anointing, We cannot fail. We rest and stand upon His strength and His power that never runs out or falters.
Begin to confess Philippians 4:13 over yourself, over your day, over your life. This will develop a confident attitude in you. You will be empowered to step out and begin to do what you want to do with the Lord’s help. Use the confidence that God gives to face down fear, worry, and insecurity. Remind yourself, “I can do this. I am somebody. Speak God’s Word freely and with boldness. You will find your confidence will rise as you put your confidence in God.
