Who Is Jesus?

Who Is Jesus?

Who is Jesus? Some say He was a teacher, a prophet, or a good man. Others called Him a wine drinker, a devil, a rioter and a deceiver. The list goes on and on. But, really, these are all opinions, and opinions are a dime a dozen. Human history does attest to the fact that someone named Jesus was born and died. Our calendar is even marked by His coming. Jesus left His mark on humanity. Religious people hated him. Sinners felt accepted when around Him. He would rebuke hypocrites, yet open His arms to the earnest seeker- and often reveal to them who He was. While opinions vary about His identity, the Scriptures plainly tell us who Jesus is.

The heavenly Father declared that Jesus is the Son of God.

When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him.  And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” Matthew 3:16-17 (NKJV)

Jesus is God.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made….And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:1-3, 14 (NKJV)

Jesus is the Son of God and the Son of man.

Then those who were in the boat came and worshiped Him, saying, “Truly You are the Son of God.” Matthew 14:33 (NKJV)

“For the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.” Matthew 12:8 (NKJV)

Jesus is the only Way to the Father.

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. John 14:6 (NKJV)

This disproves the claim that all religions lead to the same God. His use of the word the instead of the word a shows that Jesus is the ONLY way to the heavenly Father. And He clearly says that no one can come to the Father unless they do it through Him. This verse also shows us that Jesus is the Source of life and that all truth comes from Him.

Jesus is the Savior.

“Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12 (NKJV)

Salvation can be found only in Jesus. Why? Because He’s the only one who lived a sinless life, gave his life to pay the price for our sin, and was raised from the dead.

Jesus is Lord.

Who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:6-11 (NKJV)

We can confess Jesus now, in other words, we can believe and receive Jesus as our Lord by confessing it out loud now- or we will do it with everyone else at the judgment. Those who wait until the judgment to confess Jesus will have waited too late. Thw wise thing to do is to believe and receive Him now. If you are not born again, ask Jesus to come into your heart today, and let Jesus live His life through you.

I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. Galatians 2:20 (NKJV)

Once we are born again, we can boldly declare with our life and words that Jesus is the Son of God, Lord of all, the Savior for all mankind. Jesus is exactly who He says He is. Let Him be your all in all, your everything, your very life.
