Don't Miss The Point

Don't Miss The Point

There are many things we can do in life, many places we can see, knowledge we can gain, experiences we can have, and relationships we can be in. However, without knowing Jesus, it doesn’t mean a thing. In the book of Ecclesiastes, which was written by King Solomon, we see that he tried it all. And I mean all. And after he’d experienced practically everything there was to experience, we said it was vain, worthless, and meaningless without God.

Consider this: Solomon was the richest man on the face of the earth, yet he may have been the least satisfied man on earth. In all we seek in life, in all the understanding we attain, it’s worthless without the Source of life and understanding Himself. Solomon said in Proverbs that the reverential respect and fear of the Lord is where true knowledge begins.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. Proverbs 1:7 (KJV)

The knowledge we really need is the knowledge of God- knowing Him by His Word, by revelation, by a personal relationship and by experiencing His goodness. What good is life if you know a lot of “stuff” but don’t know God?

I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done. Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ and become one with him. I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ. For God’s way of making us right with himself depends on faith. I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead. I want to suffer with him, sharing in his death, Philippians 3:7-10 (New Living Translation, NLT)

Paul counted everything that he had gained in life as nothing compared to knowing Jesus- He gave it all up for close intimate fellowship with Christ. So, with all your getting, make sure you get a sure knowledge of God. One thing is needful, so be sure to choose that one thing (Luke 10:42). Don’t be distracted by the world and its empty promises; all that glitters is not gold. Seek God and everything else you need and want will come (Matthew 6:33).

I think a lot about people who die without accepting Jesus. It grieves me to consider the torment they are going through now and forever. They went through life and totally missed the point- and what do they have to show for it? Misery, pain, and terror like they never imagined. What a waste of a life to spend time on this earth and never know God- what a total, complete, and utter waste.

Le't’s choose to have the mindset of Paul- and of King David when he wrote of his desire to be with the Lord.

Here’s the one thing I crave from God, the one thing I seek above all else: I want the privilege of living with him every moment in his house, finding the sweet loveliness of his face, filled with awe, delighting in his glory and grace. I want to live my life so close to him that he takes pleasure in my every prayer. Psalm 27:4 (The Passion Translation, TPT)

That’s the point of it all, my friend. And I pray that you don’t miss it.
