Looking Unto Jesus
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:1-2 (KJV)
The grand stand of heaven is watching how we run our race. They’re cheering us on to keep running. We can do this. As we lay aside what holds us back and the sin that knocks us off course by looking unto Jesus, He is the Author of our faith and the Finisher of it as well. He will finish, or complete, our faith as we keep our eyes on Him. We do this with joy as we endure had times. As we look to Him, we overcome just as He did.
Jesus set an example for us to follow. No matter what He faced, He trusted His heavenly Father with all His life. In all He went through, even the death of the cross, He trusted. Even when it looked like it was over, God raised Jesus up and put Him in the highest place, where He belongs.
It’s not over until we win. It’s not over until God says it is over. Even in apparent defeat, God will give us the victory, and we will come out on top.
As we keep our eyes on Jesus; as we keep our faith in Him, this gives Jesus an avenue to further develop our faith. And what Jesus starts, He finishes. The Lord will finish the good work He began in us, putting us where He wants us and making us who He wants us to be.
It’s not over until we win.
Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place. II Corinthians 2:14 (KJV)
But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. I Corinthians 15:57 (KJV)
Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. Romans 8:37 (KJV)
We win!
