Peace On Earth
Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” Luke 2:8-14 (NKJV)
“On Earth peace, goodwill toward men!” This was the triumphant announcement made by the angel armies at the birth of the Messiah. It told those present that the plan to remove the wall between God and man had been set in motion, and that God’s will toward men was good. Believers today enjoy the benefits of goodwill toward men- we can have an intimate relationship with God with nothing to keep us apart. However, peace on Earth is something we are still waiting to manifest. It will be realized in full when time is no more and we live with God forever. We can personally have His peace as a part of our salvation, but the world itself does not have peace.
His peace is desperately needed on Earth today. And we can be the avenue through which His peace is spread throughout the Earth. God’s love, shared with our fellow man, brings the peace that passes understanding. We defeat evil with good. So, this Christmas and every day, let’s be like our Savior who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed of the devil.
Stand in faith and know God is working, and as the lyrics to a very anointed Christmas song say, “The wrong will fail, the right prevail.” It will not be long, and we are about to see more of God’s peace on Earth realized than ever before.
