Of Mops And Maps
I mopped our bathroom floor the other day, and I got to thinking about how strategic God is. I know it doesn’t sound like the two are related, but they are. When you mop a floor, you have to be mindful of how you do it- there is an order that must be followed. First, you have to remove everything that is on the floor that might be in the way. Then you get the dust and particles removed. Next, you mop, but you mop strategically, thinking ahead about the best pattern to follow. You have to consider the best place to start and where you want to end up. As you mop, there are some spots you have to do first, such as behind the door since you have to close the door to reach that place. While it doesn’t take a degree in nuclear science to mop a floor, there has to be a strategy and plan so you don’t end up walking on your freshly mopped floor.
I declare from the beginning how it will end and foretell from the start what has not yet happened. I decree that my purpose will stand, and I will fulfill my every plan. Isaiah 46:10 (The Passion Translation, TPT)
In the same way, God has laid out and planned the course of human events, with a plan and strategy in mind. From the beginning of time, He saw what would happen and every choice that every single person would make. He knew very possible scenario that could come about based on the choices of mankind, and He mapped out a course of action to create the outcome He desired. He planned and thought ahead, anticipating every possible situation. After all, the Word says He spoke the end from the beginning. He is outside of time and can orchestrate things to accommodate for our misguided choices.
Is God in control of everything? No, He gave us authority and the ability to choose. However, in His wisdom, He has a plan in place to counter every wrong decision and action, every attack of the enemy. So, while we may mop ourselves into a corner and have to walk on a wet floor, God’s plan is without error and cannot fail. He is the Master Planner, and His plan will come to pass. Let’s decide to cooperate with that plan and seek His will in all we do. As we do, we’ll see God’s good plan unfold in our lives and world.
