Acts of Love
And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise. Luke 6:31 (KJV)
We have all had people who loved us and made an impact on our lives. There’s a saying that goes something like “People will remember you more by how you made them feel than by what you said.” The reason this saying is true is that people want to feel loved, not just told that they are loved. Words, even well-intended words, can come off as insincere if our actions don’t match up.
If I tell you I love you and don’t do anything for you, you wouldn’t beileve that I love you, and you wouldn’t have good feelings about our relationship. But when I show you that I love you by my actions, you feel it and believe it. I touched a part of you that could not be touched by words alone.
It’s true that we need to regularly be sure to tell those around us that we love them. However, we need to reinforce that with actions that demonstrate our love.
So, please remember the saying I mentioned. “People will remember you more by how you made them feel than by what you said.” They may forget what you told them, but they remember what you did. Doing good for people is like making a deposit in them. When they think of you, they will draw on that deposit and have warm, loving thoughts of the person who acted in love.
