In All Things, Pray and Sing
For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. I Corinthians 14:2 (KJV)
Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Romans 8:26-28 (KJV)
This tells us that all things work together for our good as we pray in the Spirit. The Holy Spirit helps us to pray; He prays with and through us. In doing so, He helps our weakness in what we face. When things aren’t going well and we can’t get results, the Holy Spirit makes intercession for us; He prays for us with sounds we can’t articulate. Holy Spirit knows the mind of God, so when we let Him pray through us (in tongues and in our understanding), we pray God’s will- what God says about the situation. As a result, we can know that God is working out everything for our good according to the Word and the Spirit.
Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; Ephesians 5:17-20 (KJV)
This passage says we can understand the Lord’s will by singing with songs, hymns, and spiritual songs (songs of the Holy Spirit). Spiritual songs are those given to us by the Holy Spirit. Just as He helps us to pray, He also helps us to praise and sing, giving thanks for all things from God- or all things that are God’s will. And everything from God is good, according to James 1:17.
As we pray and sing, especially in the Spirit, God uses this, and prayer and praise takes what is meant to be bad and changes it for our good. When we use spirit-filled prayer and praise, things go from bad to good, from wrong to right, from curses to blessing. God uses our prayer and praise and helps us to give thanks for all the things God is doing in our lives. We give thanks for all things God is working out for our good. We don’t give thanks for the bad that the enemy brings, but we give thanks for the good that God brings to pass out of it.
God takes what the enemy meant for bad, to destroy us, and as we pray and give thanks, God takes the bad and transforms it into something good. As a result, whatever the enemy meant to do us harm actually ends up helping us. God really is working all things for our good. He’s a good God, and He works only good. We give Him thanks for all the good He has done and is doing for us . Through prayer and praise, God brings good things to pass for us.
Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!…Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!… Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!… Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! Psalm 107:8, 15, 21, 31 (KJV)
