The Presence is Worth the Pursuit
O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary. Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee. Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name. My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips: When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches. Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice. My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me. Psalm 63:1-8 (KJV)
God calls us. He calls us to a lifelong pursuit- of God. Our response should be, “God, you are my lifelong pursuit and greatest desire.”
God calls us and then He draws us. We must answer the call, and as He draws us, we must run hard after Him with all that we are. God puts a hunger for Him in each of us. And as we pursue God, we find His presence and we are satisfied. God puts a thirst in us for Him, and as we seek Him, He fills us.
God is our personal God. As we thirst and long for Him, we will experience His power and glory in an intimate way. He is love. He is life. And yet, He is better than life. As we praise him and worship Him, we draw near and are satisfied As we think on the Lord, we remember that He is our help, and we come under the shelter of His wings. We experience His protective love and care.
We rejoice because of His presence. And it draws us to continue to pursue Him and follow hard after Him. In so doing, we find He upholds us by His right hand. His hand protects, and provides. God’s presence is the ultimate reward for the pursuit- and it is totally worth it.
