The Year of Release

The Year of Release

At the end of every seven years thou shalt make a release. And this is the manner of the release: Every creditor that lendeth ought unto his neighbour shall release it; he shall not exact it of his neighbour, or of his brother; because it is called the Lord's release. Deuteronomy 15:1-2 (KJV)

Six years thou shalt sow thy field, and six years thou shalt prune thy vineyard, and gather in the fruit thereof; But in the seventh year shall be a sabbath of rest unto the land, a sabbath for the Lord: thou shalt neither sow thy field, nor prune thy vineyard. That which groweth of its own accord of thy harvest thou shalt not reap, neither gather the grapes of thy vine undressed: for it is a year of rest unto the land. Leviticus 25:3-5 (KJV)

And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about. And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all. And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. Luke 4:14-19 (KJV)

This year is a shemitah year. Shemitah in Hebrew means release, or remission. It was commanded by the Lord that the Israelites observe a shemitah every seventh year and at the end of seven shemitahs, or 49 years, they were to celebrate a jubilee year in the 50th year.

Shemitah is a release from captivity, sin, and poverty. It involved a releasing of the land, canceling of debt, and everything was returned back to the original owner with all loans wiped away. People returned to what was lost, typically their land. The shemitah evened the score. The land rested and so did the people.

There is coming a wealth transfer from the hands of the wicked to the righteous. There will be a reckoning and a recompense. God will pay us back and all accounts will be settled. What was lost or stolen will be given to us, and it will happen soon. It can happen in a day. Just as Egypt gave the Israelites their gold and silver, basically giving them their back pay from years of slavery, God can do that for us (Exodus 12:35-36). It happened for them in one day and it can happen that way again. And it will bring us a time of rest.

The shemitah is a year that brings freedom. We’ll be free from all debt to be able to serve God. Even national debts are cancelled and settled. This is a year of restoration. We’re getting it all back. Salvation, health, family, land, finance, freedom, justice- it’s payback and pay day. Supernatural wealth transfer, revival and God’s outpouring are here. The captives are released and we have freedom to serve God. This is shemitah, our year of release and great celebration!
