The Acid Test
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:8 (KJV)
We face a lot of situations and decisions. Should I do this? Should I go there? Should I listen to or watch this? Should I trust this person or not? Should I sing this song? Should I read this book? We can use Philippians 4:8 as the acid of test to determine what we should and should not do.
Ask yourself questions based on the points in this verse. Is this thing I am considering doing true and honest? Is this movie I plan to watch pure? You get the idea. If they cannot pass the points in this verse, then don’t do it. And if they pass, you can proceed.
Keep these points in your thoughts. As we do, the God of peace will be with us to give us His peace. This all helps us to decide what to let in our lives or to keep out. They are good truths to receive, hear, learn, and do. As we do this, it will help us make right choices and always do the right thing.
