Learning to Live Deeper- Part 1
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV)
Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass. Psalm 37:3.5 (KJV)
If we only think about our own problems and failures, this keeps us thinking about all that has gone wrong in our lives. When we do, we are living within our heads, living from a wrong mindset. God wants us to live not from our heads, but from somewhere deeper: our spirits. Our spirits are where the Holy Spirit dwells.
God wants us to use our heads to think right, but He doesn’t want us to just live from our heads, or our mental understanding and reasoning. We have to stop leaning on our own understanding and go deeper where we depend on God and trust Him. If we just live inside our heads, we will live with confusion and regret, rolling past failures and bad events over and over in our minds. Living life from just a mental perspective is an incomplete and inferior way to live.
Our minds do have a role to play, but only if they are renewed by God’s Word. We can begin to have the mind of Christ, where we have a spiritual mind that brings life and peace, rather than a carnal mind that brings defeat, and death. But, we are meant to live by our spirits by the Holy Spirit, which will make us happier and more free.
Here are some ways to get out of your head and live from your spirit:
Think on God’s Word and not on problems. (Philippians 4:8, Isaiah 26:3)
Speak God’s Word and don’t speak the problems. (II Corinthians 1:20, Mark 11:23)
Pray in tongues. This bypasses your mind, and your spirit communicates directly to God. (I Corinthians 14:2, 15-17, Romans 8:26-28)
Pray God’s promises, not problems. (Mark 11:24, John 15:7)
Worship God. When you get out of the mental realm and begin to worship God from your spirit, it releases the Holy Spirit and rivers of living water flow from your spirit. Amazing and miraculous things happen when we worship. (John 4:23-24, John 7:38, I Corinthians 14:15-17)
Sit in God’s Presence. Shut out all distractions, be still, and listen for His voice. He will speak to you down in your spirit, so be still and listen to what you hear coming up from inside. Of course, be sure it lines up with Scripture or it isn’t God talking. When He speaks to us directly, it is deep calling to deep. (Psalm 91:1, Jeremiah 33:3, Psalm 46:10, Psalm 42:7)
