Learning to Live Deeper- Part 2
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Matthew 4:4 (KJV)
We must learn to live deeper, not by what we feel or what we see. we must get alone with God and His Word. Get in a position to hear and receive from God. We can hear Him through His Word, which carries His voice, His wisdom, and His way of doing things. We absolutely must live by faith in what God says, not by how we feel.
Feelings change. They come and go. You cannot depend on them, but you can depend on God and His Word. God and His Word are One. Live by God’s Word. The Word will keep us, help us, heal us, lead us, speak to us, and meet every need.
But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. James 1:22 (KJV)
When we don’t feel like standing any longer, we must make a choice to believe God and take Him at His Word- and act on it. As we do, we’re living deeper; we’re learning to go deeper in God. We’re learning to live by His Word and not by temporal emotions. God’s Word is eternal. When everything fails, God’s Word prevails.
And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret, And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets. And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon's, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship. Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink. When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord. For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken: And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men. And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him. Luke 5:1-11 (KJV) emphasis mine
Peter and his partners had worked all night. He was tired and did not feel like fishing anymore. However, when Jesus told him to cast the nets, Peter said “nevertheless at thy word…” He acted not on how he felt but on Jesus’ word, and they caught a lot of fish. When we hear Jesus speak and do what He says in obedience, whether we feel like it or not, we become doers of God’s Word. Acting in faith on God’s Word always brings blessing and we will see amazing results.
To live deeper, live by God’s Word. Stop living by ever-changing feelings and live by the Word that never fails.
