The Proper Diet for Defeating Fear
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:17 (KJV)
For everything God has made, the devil tries to come up with his own version; a counterfeit. Faith is of God, and the devil has a similar and opposite force called fear. Therefore, if faith comes by hearing the Word of God, then fear comes by hearing the word of the devil. The key is what a person is hearing. What we feed on makes a huge difference in whether we walk in faith or fear.
If we feed on a constant diet of bad news, the word of the devil, we’ll be filled with fear. However, if we feed on the Word of God, which is good news, then we’ll be filled with faith.
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Hebrews 11:6 (KJV)
Faith pleases God; fear does not. If we seek to please God, then we must seek to be filled with faith. And to be filled with faith, we must feed on, or keep our focus on, God’s Word. And to be successful in life, we have to walk by faith and not by the natural senses.
So what are you feeding on? If yours is a diet that is heavy on the things of the world, like the mainstream news media, then you need to shift your focus away from the word of the devil. Turn off the news and turn on the Bible. Get away from social media too, because there is so much fear, unbelief, and bad doctrine spouted on social media. And you also need to consider how much alternative news you expose yourself to. Some alternative news sites may actually be telling the real facts, but they can hinder your faith if they aren’t also promoting the truth of the deliverance God has promised. The real facts of the situation, when not mixed with God’s perspective, can induce just as much fear as the false news.
I can’t be any plainer than this- the ONLY way to thrive in the season of shaking we are in and in the more intense shaking that is about to take place, is to sever your ties with sources that bring fear. Turn wholeheartedly to the Word of God and to those who promote the promises of the Lord. Tune your heart in to Scripture like Psalm 91 and others. They will bring faith and erase any fear, no matter how bad things appear. If you want to remain calm and unshaken in the midst of the epic storm that is coming, feed your faith and starve all fear. The time of trouble will be brief, but only those who are full of the Word will be able to ride out the storm in absolute faith and peace.
