The Promise of the Blossom
The desert and the parched land will be glad; the wilderness will rejoice and blossom. Like the crocus, it will burst into bloom; it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy. The glory of Lebanon will be given to it, the splendor of Carmel and Sharon; they will see the glory of the Lord, the splendor of our God. Strengthen the feeble hands, steady the knees that give way; say to those with fearful hearts, “Be strong, do not fear; your God will come, he will come with vengeance; with divine retribution he will come to save you.” Isaiah 35:1-4 (New International Version, NIV)
We have a potted geranium at our house that we actually had last summer. We found out that if you kept the flower indoors and pruned it and took care of it that it would live and produce blossoms the next year. The promise of the blossoms motivated us to continue to care for it. All through the dark months of winter, we watered it and made sure it had light. And sure enough, buds began to form on its branches. And we now have blooms coming out on the plant.
Israel had a promise from God that they woud be a nation once again and that the desert places would blossom and bloom. And God has been faithful to His promise.
God is faithful to all of His promises, but like the geranium, we have a part to play in seeing it come to pass. When God gives us a promise, whether it is something we find in His Word, through a sermon we hear, a prophetic utterance, a desire the Holy Spirit drops in our heart, or even something in a dream or vision, we must tend to and care for that promise. If we give the promise plenty of light and water it, it will blossom and bloom in our lives.
To give something light, we must meditate on it and keep it before us. When we get light on something, we are getting illumination and revelation from the Lord on it. We must speak forth the promise and the Scriptures that support it. Our consistent confession that the Lord has brought to pass what is promised, supports our faith and causes the promise to receive light to grow and produce.
To give something water, we must involve the Holy Spirit by praying in tongues (John 7:38). And the Word of God is also called the water of the Word (Ephesians 5:26). By praying in tongues and staying in the Word, we add water to the promise.
You may be holding onto the promise of renewed health, increased finances, household salvation, restored relationships, or a great endtime revival. Maybe, like Israel, you are waiting on God to come with vengeance and retribution to free our nation. No matter what promise you are standing on, God is faithful to bring it to pass as we do our part. And in due season, we will see blooms coming out all over the place!
