More Than Enough... Mercy
It is because of the Lord’s mercy and loving-kindness that we are not consumed, because His [tender] compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great and abundant is Your stability and faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23 (Amplified Bible Classic Edition, AMPC)
God has often been described as the God of more than enough. Many people say this, referring to His abundance of financial provision and abundance of joy, and even abundance of healing. But, it also can refer to the fact that God is the God of more than enough mercy. And this truth demonstrates the perfect justice of God.
You may be wondering what I mean by this. For example, let’s consider the worldwide situation in which we find ourselves. The wicked people who have been in places of power and influence have been there for quite some time. Why is that? There are a number of reasons, but one big one is that God is the God of more than enough mercy. He has given them more than enough opportunities to repent. This is because He is truly and completely just.
At some point, we will all stand before the Lord, either at the judgment seat of Christ or the great white throne judgment. And when we stand before Him, no one will be able to say that God is not just. No one will be able to successfuly accuse God of not giving them the chance to turn to Him. As a matter of fact, God will be able to look at them and say, I gave you more than enough time and opportunity to turn from your wickedness, but you did not. God’s mercy extends beyond what is necessary for the situation to be conisdered just. He extends more than enough mercy.
God has reached out to the wicked in numerous ways- with righteous people who cross their paths, in dreams, in Scriptures they hear, in preachers that they have ignored, in things they have read and seen. God has placed a sense of His reality and nearness in their hearts, and they have brushed it aside. God has spoken to them in their hearts- and even audibly to some. And let’s not forget the prophets that have been rasied up in this hour to proclaim truth from the housetops. No, there will be no excuse for the wicked people who have denied and mocked God- because He has given them more mercy than necessary.
The Lord does not delay and is not tardy or slow about what He promises, according to some people’s conception of slowness, but He is long-suffering (extraordinarily patient) toward you, not desiring that any should perish, but that all should turn to repentance. II Peter 3:9 (Amplified Bible Classic Edition, AMPC)
If it were up to you and me, these wicked leaders would have been brought down long ago. But, the God of more than enough mercy, waited patiently to give them ample, yes- even more than enough, time to repent. His mercy goes far beyond what ours does.
For the Lord is good; His mercy and loving-kindness are everlasting, His faithfulness and truth endure to all generations. Psalm 100:5 (Amplified Bible Classic Edition, AMPC)
