Don't Go It Alone
Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up. Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone? And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken. Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 (KJV)
And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it. Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. I Corinthians 12:26-27 (KJV)
Life presents us with trials, troubles, hurts, losses, failures, and other difficulties. However, we don’t have to go through these things alone. God intends for us to help one another and to be helped by others.
I remember suffering a broken relationship that was painful and prolonged. I was able to get through it because i had a support system. I had pastors who encouraged and taught me the Word. They were there for me. I had friends who supported me. I had one friend who actually brought me into his home and treated me like a part of his family. It seems that all through my life, God has placed certain people in my life to help me through each particular season I’ve been in. There was one friend who was going through the same thing I was and we bonded really close. We found we were kindred spirits in the Lord.
The Apostle Paul had companions in his life and ministry- like Silas, Timothy, Aquilla, and Priscilla (Romans 16:1-16). As we establish and stay connected to support systems- the people God sends to us- we receive the help we need when we need it. And we often have the opportunity to return the favor and help them in their time of need.
Having a group of supporters around us allows us to not only go through difficult times, but it makes it easier for us to grow in those times. No matter what you are going through, don’t isolate yourself. Reach out to the people God has put around you- your church family, your pastors, and other believers. God has given us a family- the body of Christ- so we never have to go it alone.
