Jesus Is Our Righteousness
Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth. In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, The Lord Our Righteousness. Jeremiah 23:5-6 (KJV)
This is a prophecy about the Lord Jesus Christ. The righteous branch refers to the kingly line of David. David was a picture and type of Christ and Christ’s reign. David conquered his enemies and so did Christ. David was a king who ruled and Jesus Christ is the King of kings. Jesus is righteous; the Righteous branch. When we accept Him, He becomes our righteousness.
But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: I Corinthians 1:30 (KJV)
We are made right by Jesus’ righteousness. We are now the righteousness of God in Christ (II Corinthians 5:21). We are as righteous before the Father as Christ is. Our standing before God is secure and we are accepted. We can come into God’s presence because we are in right standing with Him. We can stand before Him with no sin consciousness or guilt (Hebrews 9:14, 10:22).
That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. I John 1:3 (KJV)
Through the righteousness imparted to us by Jesus, we can have fellowship with God and with one another. As the righteousness of God in Christ, we have a right to see prayers answered and promises fulfilled. We can reign in life (Romans 5:17) and in the millenium (Zecharaiah 14:1-9). And then Christ will reign in the eternity of eternities (Daniel 7:13-14).
Because Christ is eternal, our righteousness and right standing with God are forever. We will see God make everything right for us, and we will live eternally in righteousness with Him.
