God is Love; God is Good; God is Just
He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. I John 4:8 (KJV) emphasis mine
And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God. Mark 10:18 (KJV) emphasis mine
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. I John 1:9 (KJV) emphasis mine
The Bible tells us about God; how He is love, good, just, faithful, and forgiving. We have had a wrong concept of God because we’ve viewed God through the lens of religion or human conception. We must know, believe, and see God as He is- by the Bible showing us what He is like. For starters, let’s look specifically at the fact that God is love, good, and just.
Scripture tells us God is love. He isn’t simply loving- He is love itself. We must believe this to receive the love God has for us. If we can believe God loves us and will be with us, we can believe He will answer our prayers and meet our needs.
God is good and does good. God’s goodness is what leads people to repentance. When we sin, we can repent and know He is good and will forgive us. In so doing, He sets us up to receive His best because sin will hinder us from receiving the good things He has for us. Because God is inherently good, He cannot and will not be bad to us. Any bad things we experience are a result of living in a fallen world. Never attribute bad things, events, or circumstances to God. He is good only and does only good.
God is just, meaning He is righteous and He makes all wrongs right. When we’re wronged, it’s not because of anything God has done. Those things come from the enemy. God, in His perfect righteousness, will do only what is right and will never wrong us. Because God is just, He sent Jesus Christ to satisfy His wrath over sin. Thus, Jesus took our punishment and we never have to. When we receive Jesus, we receive mercy and grace instead of punishment. Because God is just, He will do away with sin, the devil, and all evildoers. Their place will be in the lake of fire. God’s justice will make everything right for us, and that will continue throughout eternity.
As we refer to the Bible to see God correctly, we get to know who He is. This allows us to more easily love Him, serve Him, hear Him, know Him, follow Him, and have intimate, continued fellowship with Him. Knowing God by the Word shows us that He will fulfill His Word in our lives. Seeing God correctly is life-changing. It changes us and how we approach the Lord.
