By Whose Stripes
Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. I Peter 2:24 (KJV)
This says that Jesus Himself bore our sins. He was our sin bearer, the Lamb of God, Who took away the sin of the world (John 1:29). Jesus bore every sin on His body. He was our scape goat (Leviticus 16), meaning He took our place and bore our sins. He did this on the cross, an execution stake for criminals. He took our place and punishment. He is our payment, paying the price for our sins.
For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. II Corinthians 5:21 (KJV)
Jesus actually became sin. He took and bore our sins and gave us His righteousness. He who knew no sin became sin, or a sacrifice for sin. He did this so we could be made right with God.
By whose stripes, or wounds, we are healed. Jesus died for our sins AND SICKNESS. The same sin that made us spiritually dead, separated from God, made us sick. The same sin that made us unrighteous before God brought sickness upon mankind. So, this Jesus Who took away the sin that made us dead to God and without hope of redemption is the same Jesus Who took away the sin that made us sick! By Jesus’ stripes; the whipping that bruised Him, stripped His flesh off His bones, and exposed the very inner parts of His body; we are healed and made whole.
The blood of Jesus washes away all sin. The stripes of Jesus take all sickness away. There is no sin so deep that Jesus’ blood cannot cleanse. There is no sickness so bad that Jesus wounds cannot heal. The same body that shed blood for our redemption is the same body that bore the brutal lashings to guarantee our healing. The same power that saves also heals! And since Jesus bore all sins, He also took all sickness. And all means all.
