We Are Heirs!
Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ. Galatians 4:7 (KJV)
An heir is one who receives an inheritance by right of birth. When we were born-again, or born into the family of God, God became our Father and we became His children. We are now heirs of God and joint heirs- equal heirs- with Christ (Romans 8:16-17). We have inherited all things based on what Christ did for us at the cross and what God promised us in Scripture.
Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all; Galatians 4:1 (KJV)
This tells us that we must grow up in Christ, becoming Christlike. Full grown sons inherit their daddy’s business, or what is rightfully theirs by being in the family. A son may own the whole estate, or be lord of all, but he cannot run it all and access it all until he is mature. In the same way, we only receive from Father God according to the level of our maturity to handle things. So, God grows us little by little and gives us our inheritance a bit at a time as we’re able to handle it. God doesn’t want another prodigal on His hands (Luke 15). Immature people waste their father’s inheritance.
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. Romans 8:14 (KJV)
Mature sons of God let the Holy Spirit lead them in their sonship, showing them how to handle the wealth of their inheritance. We learn to advance God’s kingdom on the earth and not our own agenda. As we mature, we’ll seek godly things, the spiritual things of God, to do God’s work, reaching out and bringing others to be mature in Christ.
The more we mature, the more we will be permitted to handle all God gives us. As sons, we have sonship rights- privileges and inheritance. As we walk in the Spirit, staying in step with the Holy Ghost, we’ll stroll and walk at peace, being led by Him. He’ll lead us into all God has promised to give us. We will bear much fruit that glorifies God and blesses humanity. We will seek God, His kingdom, and priorities.
We are heirs of God and co-heirs with Jesus Christ. All that belongs to God and Christ is ours. As we mature in God, He is able to bless us more and more to give us our full inheritance as sons.
