It's A Womb, Not A Tomb
These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren. Proverbs 6:16-19 (KJV) emphasis mine
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. John 10:10 (KJV) emphasis mine
With just these two Scripture references alone, we can establish God’s view on abortion. Just for the record- He’s against it.
Proverbs 6 tells us that God hates hands that shed innocent blood. There is no blood more innocent than that of an unborn child. A baby in the womb is developing and there is no way it has sinned against God. It is innocent. Anyone who sheds the blood of an unborn child is guilty of murder, and the ten commandments forbids murder.
John 10 clearly shows us who is behind abortion. The devil, also called the thief by Jesus in this verse, is the one who kills. In contrast, Jesus states that He has come to give life. The distinction between the two is obvious. Jesus is for life and the thief, satan, is for death. Jesus is the Source of life, and the devil is the source of death. Abortion brings death to a developing child, thus, it is the work of the enemy. It’s not hard to understand.
When people refuse to accept this explanation, it isn’t because they cannot understand the truth in it- it’s because they selfishly want it to be the other way. They want to be able to abort children, or allow others to do so, without the penalty that it entails. They want to do what they want to do without feeling guilty or being at fault. So, they make up excuses to ease their consciences. One often-used example of this is the “a fetus is not a child” argument.
This does not stand up to the truth of the Word. A fetus is definitely a child. The Bible shows that a child is a child at conception.
For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them. Psalm 139:13-16 (KJV) emphasis mine
God saw the Psalmist while he was developing in his mother’s womb and knew him- even when he was not yet perfected, or completed. The New Living Translation clarifies some of the hard-to-understand language found in the King James version.
You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. Psalm 139:13-16 (New Living Translation, NLT) emphasis mine
God knows every single person before they are born- while they are in the womb. He watches as they develop and grow. This means that he views the fetus as a person. However, if we need another verse to confirm it, let’s go to Jeremiah 1.
Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. Jeremiah 1:5 (KJV) emphasis mine
This verse tells us, without a doubt, that God knows us BEFORE we are formed in the womb. Therefore, each person is known by God and has a unique identity when it is conceived in the womb. A baby in the womb is still a baby. This means that abortion is an act of murder, which God hates. This also means that anyone who supports or defends abortion is guilty of it themselves. Voting for someone who supports abortion means you are an accomplice to murder. I know that seems like a harsh statement, but is the truth.
Is this intended to condemn those who have supported abortion, those who have aborted their child, or those who have performed abortions? No, it is a call to repentance. When we repent, or turn away from, sin, God will forgive us. You can be freed of guilt and condemnation. Repent, meaning to turn away from and reject abortion. Ask God to forgive you. He is faithful to forgive us when we ask. Once you ask His forgiveness and choose to reject abortion, you are forgiven and made clean. He does not remember it anymore. And if you had an abortion, you have a child waiting to greet you when you get to heaven!
To recap, abortion is murder. This means it is sin. Like any sin, if one turns away from it and asks God to forgive them, they are made clean, and God remembers the sin no more. Remember- God designed the womb as a place of life, not a place of death.
